If Spiders Worked Together, They Could Theoretically Eat All Humans In Just One Year

The following fact, whether you dislike spiders or not, will undoubtedly frighten you at least a little bit because it seems that these insects may consume all 7.2 billion of us in a single year.

We all know that spiders like to spin webs and catch tiny flies and beetles inside of them, but many people have apparently been astonished by their incredible appetite.

According to a report in the Washington Post, the weight consumed by all spiders worldwide in a single year is greater than the sum of the weights of all people on Earth.

Between 440.9 and 881.8 million tons of prey are consumed annually by spiders worldwide, according to research led by Klaus Birkhofer of Lund University in Sweden, Martin Nyffeler of the University of Basel in Switzerland, and Martin Nyffeler of the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg in Germany.

They drew attention to a fairly unsettling comparison: the estimated 316.3 million tons of biomass produced by all adult individuals on Earth. However, remain calm because it only serves to highlight spiders’ voracity. Otherwise, flies and mosquitoes are preferred by spiders over other insects.

The weight of all spiders, according to Nyffler and Birkhofer’s calculations, would be around 25 million tonnes, or 478 times the weight of the Titanic, which was about 52,000 tonnes.

But if it weren’t for spiders and their ravenous appetite, we’d be overwhelmed by a variety of other bugs and obnoxious creatures.
