Contrary to common opinion, when you are older, sleep disorders are not a result of aging, as the amount and need for sleep varies across different life spans, and older adults need more than eight hours of sleep, experts say. American Sleep Association research shows that adults require 7.5 to 9 hours of sleep, but they need to pay attention to other things in advance.
Otherwise, the sleeping problem can cause different health problems, daily routine disturbance, or stress. People over 60 are very sensitive, so they are bothered by noise, too much heat or cold, and those who suffer from arthritis, have kidney problems or depression, also have sleep problems.
Insomnia is characterized by problems with falling asleep, waking up regularly at night, waking up in the morning, exhaustion and anxiety which is particularly pronounced when waking up.
Occasional insomnia that lasts for several days and happens at certain occasions, according to doctors, should be differentiated from people with chronic insomnia for whom a doctor must intervene.
Experts believe that good sleep requires physical activity, or at least 20 minutes four days a week, and that walking, running, dancing, swimming is recommended as exercise relieves stress and strengthens the body, which is an important precondition for good sleep because it enhances respiration and strengthens the cardiovascular system.
The last meal should be at least half an hour before bedtime in terms of nutrition, i.e., pineapple, banana or warm milk to help you get a good sleep.
If a person has chronic insomnia, it is caused by other health problems, and the medication only needs to be prescribed by an expert, but some natural ways of getting good sleep can be tried in advance.
