Antioxidants, the substances that protect us against free radicals need to be lavished in our systems in order to maintain or general health and to gain protection against chronic diseases such as cancer, macular disease, heart disease and diabetes. 

They are constantly produced by our bodies, but the quantity produced is not even nearly enough and with aging the process tends to slow down. Antioxidant supplements are available, but we recommend a diet high in antioxidants because it is doubtlessly healthier, and, furthermore, a supplement may only contain a single type of antioxidant whereas fruits and vegetables contain a larger variety.

  • Zinc and selenium that are found in red meat, dairy products, chicken, garlic and nuts can successfully boost our immune system.
  • Vitamin E can be found in green vegetables, avocados, vegetable oils and nuts.
  • Vitamin C is contained in high dosages in citrus fruits, broccoli, green pepper and tomatoes. Also, berries are considered a super-fruit very high in antioxidants: from strawberries to blackberries, they are delicious and will surely play an important role in your health.
  • Vitamin A and Carotenoids are found in carrots, broccoli, peaches and apricots and generally in all brightly coloured items you find at the market. Eat rich salads daily, either fruit salads or vegetable ones and you are guaranteed to get your daily intake.
  • Catechins can be found in red wine and tea, especially green tea.
  • Polyphenols are found in condiments such as thyme and oregano. So don’t be afraid to spice it up.

In a nutshell, we can state that if you want to have a healthy lifestyle, you will follow a healthy diet, and a healthy diet is surely high in antioxidants. Now you know where to find them, so keep the antioxidant rate high.
